Wales Future Generations
Wales Future Generations
Wales Future Generations collaborated with the University of Liverpool in order to prototype a digital product that could be used to raise awareness for social and environmental issues impacting the country. Some issues which would be explored in the game included climate change, physical and mental health, agriculture, livestock, and pollution. A team of four students were selected, myself included, to research current crises specific to Wales and design software focusing on these issues.
Critically endangered species were an area of focus, which resulted in me creating a 3D model of a pine marten which could be used in promotional materials and informational resources. I created multiple iterations of this model in different art styles such as realistic, low poly and pixel art which could be tested with audiences to see which is more desirable for a given age group. I also created a very low-poly version of a pine marten which was adapted into a printable papercraft project which allows people to interact with the animal which would be unlocked at the end of the game.
Alongside the main pine marten model, I also designed some futuristic machines which would tend to the potential drawbacks of imminent social and environmental issues. One of these machines is a sustainable agriculture drone used for mass irrigation on unstable terrain. The other machine is a personal healthcare assistant pet which could become commonplace in homes.
To prototype the software, I used Harlowe, HTML and CSS to make a basic multiple choice game with graphics and embedded 3D models.
As this was my first group project, I learned a great amount of teamwork skills while researching and prototyping the project. I also gained many technical and creative skills during the creation of the prototype and 3D models such as organic modeling, 3D realism, character design and hard surface modeling.
